Following a year that saw the release of heavy hitters like DOOM: The Dark Ages, Microsoft is returning to its Developer Direct format to give fans a deep dive into the titles coming to Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Game Pass in 2026.
Matt Booty, Head of Xbox Game Studios, has already teased that this will be a “banner year” for the brand. Here is everything you need to know about the upcoming showcase set to kick off what is set to be a remarkable year for the brand.

Event Duration
An official runtime hasn’t been confirmed, but going by previous Developer Directs, expect the event to run for roughly 45 to 60 minutes.
What to Expect
Unlike the massive summer showcases, the Xbox Developer Direct focuses on deep dives into a select few titles. This year, the focus is squarely on the return of iconic Xbox pillars and a new IP from a well-known Japanese development studio.
Fable

Playground Games will finally provide the first extended gameplay look at the Fable reboot. Expect to see the “magic and mischief” of Albion reimagined (stunningly, judging from older footage and leaked concept art) with a focus on choice, consequence, and that signature British humor that defines the series. Hopefully, we will finall learn when precisely in 2026 the game is launching.
Forza Horizon 6

Following its reveal during last year’s Tokyo Game Show, Playground Games will host the first ever deep-dive into Forza Horizon 6. Taking the open-world racer to the stunning landscapes of Japan, the developer will provide the first look at new mechanics, how they are recreating one of the most beautiful countries in the world, and likely confirm the leaked release date.
Beast of Reincarnation

Game Freak will provide a new look at Beast of Reincarnation, the surprising one-person, one-dog action role-playing game, and the first new game from the developer outside the Pokémon series in quite a while. In this deep dive, expect to see more of protagonist Emma and her canine companion Koo, and the innovative “plant manipulation” mechanics that will define the experience.
Unannounced Surprise
Besides the three confirmed games, rumors suggest a fourth mystery game will be revealed during the event. No details on this game have been confirmed to date. Will it also get shadowdropped as Hi-Fi Rush and Ninja Gaiden 2 Black did? Tune in on January 22 to find out!
