The first LG Tandem OLED-based monitors from ASUS are here, and with the newest OLED technology, these monitors can deliver superior brightness.
ASUS Launches Flagship OLED Gaming Monitor, Boasting Dual Mode Configuration and a Mid-Range Offering with the Latest RGB Tandem OLED Panel
Popular hardware and peripheral manufacturer, ASUS, has officially debuted its first LG RGB Tandem OLED-based gaming displays, offering high refresh rates and brightness, thanks to the new OLED technology. The LG RGB Tandem OLED technology uses four emission layers of Red, Green, and Blue for improved clarity. Therefore, the new ASUS OLED monitors can deliver vivid visuals in both SDR and HDR modes.
ASUS’s flagship offering, called ROG Swift OLED PG27AQWP-W, is the fastest-ever OLED gaming monitor in today’s market, which boasts a dual mode configuration to switch between 540Hz@1440p and 720Hz@720p modes. While the 540Hz is already the highest refresh rate at 1440p resolution, the introduction of the 720Hz refresh rate makes it blazingly fast, but unfortunately cannot go beyond 720p resolution.
The ROG Swift OLED PG27AQWP-W was introduced in China two weeks ago by the model name ROG Super Kill 27 Pro, and today, ASUS has unveiled its full specifications in detail on the official website. The second monitor, ROG Strix OLED XG27AQWMG, is a mid-range offering, boasting the same LG Tandem OLED panel, but it offers up to 280Hz refresh rate at 1440p resolution. It’s ideal for the masses, as 280Hz is sufficient even for professional competitive gaming. However, the monitor has some downgrades, particularly in connectivity, compared to the flagship model.
Specs-wise, both are nearly identical in display properties and offer a glossy surface. They bring a wide color gamut, including 99.5% DCI-P3, and 135% sRGB color spaces for vibrant images and offer great color accuracy with Delta E < 2. Unfortunately, ASUS didn’t disclose the SDR brightness of these displays in the specs page and but only lists the peak HDR brightness of 1500 nits. These displays should boast somewhere between 300-350 nits of max brightness in SDR mode, which is amazing as well.
As far as connectivity goes, as I previously mentioned, the ROG Swift PG27AQWP-P brings the latest HDMI 2.1 and DisplayPort 2.1 UHBR20 ports, but the second display uses DP 1.4 only. There are a couple of USB Type A ports for peripheral connectivity as well. ASUS hasn’t shared the prices of these models, but according to previous report, the ROG Swift PG27AQWP-P should cost nearly $1100.
