James Gunn’s Superman movie ushered in the new DC Universe on the big screen. If you missed the film’s theatrical run or want to relive the punk rock superhero magic at home, I have good news for you — the Warner Bros. blockbuster is coming to streaming. And soon.
David Corenswet steps into the Man of Steel’s big red boots to chart a new course for the familiar story. Alongside him are Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Ed Gathegi as Mr. Terrific, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, Wendell Pierce as Perry White and Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen.
Gunn’s movie, which he wrote and directed and is mostly inspired by Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely’s All-Star Superman comic, drops viewers directly into the action, which carries things into new narrative territory for the famous Kryptonian. For instance, his dog Krypto gets screen time for the first time.
Krypto, Superman’s canine companion, steals the show in James Gunn’s Superman.
Appearances by the Justice Gang and cameos from John Cena’s Peacemaker and Frank Grillo’s Rick Flag Sr. provide the connective tissue between this movie and the DC titles Gunn brought to HBO Max. Superman also sets the stage for next summer’s Supergirl movie, starring Milly Alcock, further expanding this new DC Universe.
