A slightly reduced sales momentum of the iPhone 16 lineup for this period means the iPhone 17 launch is just around the corner, with Apple gearing up to launch four devices. As you might have heard on countless occasions, the ‘Plus’ variant will be replaced by the sleeker iPhone 17 Air, and according to the latest statistics, Apple has an ambitious production goal for 2025, with a report stating that the company is estimated to produce approximately 100 million units. Given that the highest number of perks are likely to be had with an iPhone 17 Pro Max purchase, the latter is expected to be produced in large sums.
Unsurprisingly, the iPhone 17 Air will be manufactured in fewer quantities than the standard version
Initially, Apple had a production goal of 90 million units for its iPhone 16 family last year, but low demand resulted in that figure dropping to 84 million units. In contrast, The Elec’s 100 million estimate for the iPhone 17 appears extraordinarily high, but it could be due to the company’s expectations that the series will sell exceptionally well. While the shipment percentages of each individual model were not mentioned, the Korean outlet states that the iPhone 17 Pro Max will be produced in the highest quantity, which is not a surprise.
The iPhone 17 Pro will secure second place, followed by the standard version and lastly, the iPhone 17 Air. This year, BOE has been tasked with supplying Apple with LTPO OLED panels for the iPhone 17 Pro, with Samsung and LG making up the remaining shipments. The report did not offer the percentage breakdown of how many units will originate from India and China, but it is likely that the latter will have the highest output and will therefore be subject to increased levies.
Thankfully, Apple has been two steps ahead because not only has it informed suppliers to embrace automation to lower production costs, it has also added a myriad of manufacturers to its supply chain to offset Trump’s tariffs. For instance, its DRAM and NAND suppliers comprise of up to five companies, giving Apple immense leverage over pricing negotiations and improving its margins. We will revisit these figures later in the year to see if Apple achieved its initial production goal or if it met strong resistance from the competition, so stay tuned.
