Verizon Believes That A Software Issue Has Resulted In Customers Losing Service Across The U.S.; Some Devices Are Stuck In SOS Mode

A multitude of reports were coming in that Verizon customers could not make calls or texts from their devices, and if you are experiencing the same problems, it is not a problem with your device. The U.S. carrier has confirmed that an outage has happened and says that restoration work has already commenced. The cellular giant mentioned that a software issue was responsible for impacting service, which could be deemed an irresponsible action from Verizon, but there is no telling what to expect from these glitches.

More than 23,000 customers have reported losing Verizon’s cellular service, with the outage happening on a Saturday

The website Down Detector revealed the statistical data of how many Verizon customers have been affected by the outage so far. At its peak, which was around 12:38AM, the figure crossed 23,000, with around 60 percent of outage reports coming from mobile devices, with the remaining 40 percent of them mentioning that there was no signal.

Customers have reported that their phones were on SOS mode, with others not having any reception for hours. Verizon has provided the following statement, but customers do not appear to be too happy with the situation. On X, some users have commented that the carrier does not issue proper communication channels when rolling out a software update, while others are saying that the company should hand out compensation for the duration of the outage.

“Thank you for reaching out. We are aware of a software issue impacting wireless service for some customers. Our engineers are engaged and we are working quickly to identify and solve the issue. Please visit our Check Network Status page for updates on service in your area. We know how much people rely on Verizon and apologize for any inconvenience. We appreciate your patience.”

This is not the first time that Verizon customers have had to endure an outage, with The Independent reporting that a similar incident transpired in October 2024, with Down Detector accumulating a jaw-dropping 100,000 reports. Fortunately, the company is routinely updating its customers, with a post on X mentioning that the service is slowly being restored in some areas.
