Many will chuckle at this ambition – Intel has a less than exemplary record in customer care – possibly harking back to Andy Grove’s famous remark about dealing with non-compliant parts: “Ship the shit”.
Mind you, Intel is not the only chip company to fall short in this regard.
When a young chip exec joined a semiconductor company of which he was to become CEO, he recalls:
“When I joined, my boss was very big on diversity and the voice of the customer. The latter was so important to him that he had a life size « typical » customer dummy made and this was literally given a seat at the table of all of our management meetings.”
“Within a couple of months the « customer » was relegated to a seat at the back of the room and perhaps no more than two months later he disappeared totally without a comment from my boss,” concludes the yarn.
Good luck Mr Tan
