The Edinburgh company says the investment will accelerate growth of its EM-2 family of products. These use patented electromagnetic field signalling (EMFS) for communicating through challenging sub-surface environments. For example, through water, ice, soil, rock and concrete to networks above the surface.
Possible applications include environmental monitoring, marine data collection, subsea infrastructure monitoring, and security and defence.

CSignum
The funding round was led by Archangels, Par Equity, and Scottish Enterprise. British Business Investment (BBI), Raptor Group, Deep Future, and SeaAhead’s Blue Angel Network were also investing.
For its part, Archangels highlighted the opportunity for underwater operations:
“CSignum has developed a truly unique technological breakthrough which could be a game-changer for those industries reliant on securing reliable data from their underwater operations,” said Dan McKiddie, Investment Manager at Archangels.

EM2
The EM2 is a wireless communication link to transmit data reliably through “the water-air barrier”.
The technology uses electromagnetic fields to carry data, without the use of cables. Topside devices will typically be mounted on the shoreline or on piles, buoys, or structures such as wind turbines.
The company also sells its CSignum Cloud services. These are data services to complement its wireless networks.
With its founding in 2020, and headquarters in Bathgate, the company plans to add additional staff. This will be in the UK, USA, and EU over the next year, it says.
