The new CEO Lip-Bu Tan has, in the past, pointed to a bloated bureaucracy at Intel. Last year, 15,000 jobs were lost. Intel had 108,900 employees at the end of 2024, down from 124,800 the previous year.

Intel has put out the compute tile in its Nova Lake processor  to TSMC and the chip is in trial production on TSMC’s 2nm process in Hsinchu, reports Taiwan’s Economic Daily News.

The TSMC 2nm process is set for volume production in Q3 with TSMC expecting to run 60k 2nm wafers in H2.

Intel is also expecting to get its equivalent 18A process into production in H2 but yields and projected volumes are unknown.

The compute tiles of Intel’s 3nm Lunar Lake and Arrow Lake processors were fabbed by TSMC.

Apple, AMD, Broadcom, Amazon and Nvidia are the other initial customers for the TSMC 2nm process.
