Nvidia’s gloom scenario is that China will fund AI datacentres all over the world under the country’s Belt and Road scheme and these will be built with chips supplied by Huawei rather than Nvidia, reports the New York Times.

Nvidia points to fears that the spread of Chinese-subsidised, Chinese-built, datacentres under the ‘’Digital Silk Road’ initiative could export Chinese standards, surveillance capabilities and regulation.

Of course some may say “They would say that wouldn’t they?” – after all Nvidia has just said it will take a $5.5 billion charge against profits as a result of complying with the White House’s latest restrictions on selling chips to China.

Last week Huawei unveiled its 910C chip – seen as a competitor to Nvidia’s H20.
