Leaked pictures have confirmed that ZOTAC is skipping the 12-pin power connector for its RTX 5060 Ti GPUs.
RTX 5060 Ti AMP, Twin Edge, and Twin Edge OC From ZOTAC Confirmed to Use a Single 8-pin PCI-E Connector to Meet the Requirements
Thankfully, the RTX 5060 series appears to be safe from the melting problems as NVIDIA and its board partners will be equipping the cards with a single 8-pin power connector. It shouldn’t be a surprise since the RTX 5060 series isn’t as power-hungry as the 70-class cards and will get the job done in under 200W.
The RTX 5060 Ti, which is set at 180W, reportedly features a single 8-pin PCI-E connector as spotted in the leaks. ZOTAC has prepared six different editions for the RTX 5060 Ti. Three are for the 8 GB and three for the 16 GB edition. The pics reveal the cards featuring 8-pin connectors even for the premium AMP edition. The Twin Edge and Twin Edge OC cards also bring a single 8-pin connector.
The specsheet also reveals the same and confirms some of the specs of the Twin Edge OC, including the boost clock of 2602 MHz. The 8-pin PCI-E connector is, by design, highly ideal for GPUs and hardly fails, unlike the 12-pin connectors, which commonly see melting on higher-end GPUs such as RTX 5090 and 5080. This is due to a design flaw that lets a single wire carry all the load even if the connector isn’t connected properly.
The 8-pin power connector totally cuts off the power supply if one of its wires is disconnected and maintains a balanced load across all the wires. Since the RTX 5060 Ti requires around 180W of power, a single 8-pin PCI-E plus the PCI-E x16 slot is enough for its power requirements. The former can supply up to 150W and the PCI-E slot can deliver up to 75W, totaling up to 225W at peak. This should be enough even for the OC cards and will provide enough room for overclocking as well.
The RTX 4060 series also carried the same 8-pin power connector but was even more power-efficient. Now, as far as the RTX 5060 Ti from other vendors is concerned, it may be possible to see dual 8-pin power connectors if the vendors decide to expand the room for higher overclocking potential, but we have yet to confirm this. Hopefully, no vendor supplies the 12-pin connector on the RTX 5060 Ti as there is no need for it.
