It appears that the company has opted to rebrand the iPhone SE lineup, possibly to garner more appeal in customers’ minds. The iPhone SE 4 will potentially be called the iPhone 16E, keeping up with the rest of the lineup.

If the news has any heft to it, Apple could follow the same route as Google with its budget ‘a’ series that launches a few months after the flagship models. The news was shared by tipster Majin Bu on X, claiming that his sources told him the device would be called the iPhone 16E instead of the iPhone SE 4. The tipster also shared additional details about the budget iPhone, corroborating prior reports and rumors about the design and display specifications.
Majin Bu also reiterated that the iPhone 16E will feature a design similar to the iPhone 14, which means it will house a smaller notch and a bigger 6.1-inch display. He also claims that the budget iPhone 16E will feature an OLED display, which is a major step up compared to the iPhone SE 3’s LCD. With the iPhone 16E or iPhone SE 4 launch, Apple will complete its transition from LCD to OLED, as far as the iPhone is concerned.
The leaker also claims that the iPhone 16E will come in two color options only, and there will be no special options other than Black and White. One last addition that would make the iPhone 16E or the iPhone SE 4 better than the iPhone 14 is the Action Button, which debuted with the launch of the iPhone 15 Pro models. Apple upgraded its iPhone 16 lineup with an Action Button and the Camera Control button, but we suspect the latter will not be available on the company’s budget iPhone.

The iPhone 16E is also expected to come with an A18 or the A17 Pro chip onboard with 8GB of RAM. This means that the device will be ready for Apple Intelligence out of the box, and by the time it is released, iOS 18 will have most of its promised features out and running.
