Seamless, free connectivity with infinite bandwidth

“People want simple, infinite bandwidth which is bidirectional and free,” said Dr Waguih Ishak, CTO of Avago. “They want to be seamlessly connected whether at home, in their car or at work.”

Doug Rasor, vice-president of worldwide strategic marketing at Texas Instruments, agreed with Ishak that the world wanted seamless connectivity.

Asked by Electronics Weekly how the industry could achieve seamless connectivity when common experience suggests it is extremely difficult to get different portable products to connect wirelessly with each other, Rasor replied: “It is a critical limiting factor. People are critically aware of the problem and are trying to fix it.”

The problem could only be solved, he suggested, by people voluntarily getting together. “Through plugfests, or unplug-fests in the case of wireless, and by people getting together and agreeing on test suites.”

>As for Ishak’s vision of a world of free, infinite bandwidth, it has to be said that the conference hotel provided 11Mb/s WiFi but it cost €22 for 100 minutes.

Seamless, free connectivity with infinite bandwidth  remains, for now, a happy aspiration.
