An AI Which Gets You Home

My personal experience is that the more successful people are, the easier they are to understand.

Listening to a couple of tech Titans, each with several tens of billions of dollars, talk together on the same level as any other fellas you might hear chatting in the pub, is a nice thing.

It makes you think the top guys don’t know much more about the tech future than you do, and this is usually the truth. Tech works in mysterious ways and anyone who thinks they have a handle on its twists and turns is usually wrong.

Naturally leaders like to try to influence the direction tech takes to suit their interest, and they make their predictions accordingly.

So, when Jensen and Zuck met for a fireside chat at SIGGRAPH, Jensen conjured up an edition of the future  in which “every  restaurant and every web-site has an AI”, while he found it “incredible that we are living through a time when the entire computing stock is being reinvented.”

A world where data centres move over to AI servers to supply every business with AI capabilities, will require even more GPUs – this is Nirvana for Jensen

Zuck was less forthcoming about the future world he wants –  chastened maybe by all the stick Meta takes in the present world – so he contented himself with the prediction that the AI market would consist of: “A whole lot of different products at different price points with different levels of technology in them.”

Yes, well, when was a technology market not like that?

Down the pub, expectations for the future are more ambitious – for an AI which gets you home.
