Samsung transformed its smartphone lineup by extending its AI efforts to the Galaxy S24 lineup. The company left users on the hook by giving them hope that the functionality would be expanded to wearables as well. Now, with Samsung confirming its plan to bring Galaxy AI to smartwatches, it stayed true to its words. The company did hint at opting for paid advanced AI features in the future but with limited information on whether the updates would be available on other Android devices.

Samsung would later charge for the AI features offered for the Galaxy Watch, and you can enjoy free capabilities till they last

Samsung announced this week that the AI features for the Galaxy Watch will be part of the Wear OS 5 update. We were familiar that the core focus of the AI-infused wearables would be betterment in the health features for the smartwatch series. In a recent development, we came across some interesting insights on Samsung’s future plans for the Galaxy AI capabilities. The AI utilities will be available for free, but not for long. Samsung subtly dropped its plan to charge for the AI-integrated features. Here’s what the company says in its blog post.

Availability of Galaxy AI features may vary by device model. Galaxy AI features will be provided for free until the end of 2025 on supported Samsung Galaxy smartphone devices. Different terms may apply for AI features provided by third parties.

It is still unclear whether the Galaxy AI features on the Galaxy Watch can be utilized only when connected to a Samsung smartphone or if they could be available for other Android devices as well. The latest update suggests it may be available for all Android phones. The footnotes mentioned ‘other Android devices’ in Samsung’s statement, leaving room for speculation and expectation that Samsung might not follow its previous pattern of limiting it to specifically Samsung phones.

Available on Android phones (OS Android 10 or above) and requires Samsung Health app (v6.27 or above). Samsung account log-in is required. To check the Energy Score, the health data tracked from Galaxy Watch (Galaxy Watch4 or later released Galaxy Watch series) must be synchronized with the Samsung Health app.

Some of the health advancements available for the wearable include an energy score to keep track of health records by observing sleep patterns, heart rate, and activities. Through the Wellness Tips option, you could get reminders to work on your health goals and suggestions that align with them. For advanced health experiences, you can track your sleep using AI to gain extensive details on your sleep pattern and how to improve your habits.

For now, limited Galaxy Watch users in the U.S. and Korea can access these features through the One UI 6 Watch beta program, and the final update will be available in June.
