The OnePlus 12 hype train is going at full speed and for all the right reasons. It has been a while since I was genuinely interested in a new phone from the company, and in less than a month, we are going to have our hands on not one but two devices.
International OnePlus 12 will not be the most powerful, but there is not much to worry about
The OnePlus 12, which was launched in China earlier this year, packs some of the most impressive specs, and you can expect the company to launch the same variant in international markets with some changes to the software. However, if the latest tip is to be believed, it appears that international variants of the phone might not have as much RAM as the Chinese variant.
You see, the OnePlus 12 that is available in China maxes out at 24 gigs of RAM, which is a lot of RM for a smartphone, but considering how most generative AI features require the phone to have a good quantity of RAM, it does make sense. Now, the source reveals that the international version, which is also the version debuting in India, will max out at 16 gigs of RAM, which is still not bad, but if you are looking to upgrade to the max RAM variant, you are going to have to get your hands on the Chinese variant.
As far as the decision to go for lesser RAM is concerned, I am not too bothered by this move. OnePlus knows what they are doing, and there aren’t many smartphones in the international market that ship with 24 gigabytes of RAM. I do know that OxygenOS has always been really snappy, and I have no doubt that the OnePlus 12 in the international markets will perform just as well. The one thing that does concern me is just how less RAM is going to impact on-device generative AI on the phone, but since the company has not talked about it in detail, we are not really sure what is going to happen and what is not.
The OnePlus 12 and 12R are both going to launch on 23rd January in the international markets, so if you have been waiting to get your hands on a new phone, this is your moment to start checking out all the options that are available in the market, and then make a decision. We will be providing complete coverage of all the devices that are coming out next month, so be sure to stay tuned.
