During this year’s Summer Game Fest 2025, Polish developer Techland has confirmed the release date of Dying Light: The Beast, which will be available on August 22 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series S|X. The game is a sort of spin-off that started as the second expansion for Dying Light 2 but eventually morphed into a standalone thing, mainly because of the leak that affected the developer in 2023.

Announced during last year’s Gamescom 2024, Dying Light: The Beast features the return of Kyle Crane, the protagonist of the original game, voiced once again by Roger Craig Smith, whom I interviewed alongside Techland developers during that convention.

Crane has been subjected to thirteen years of experiments, which have made him much more powerful.  Techland says players can look forward to crushing skulls, ripping heads off, and tearing enemies in half as they struggle to control Kyle Crane’s constantly evolving, rage-fueled, beast-like powers.

Once again, there will be a vastly different experience when playing Dying Light: The Beast during the day and at night. The day is for exploring and scavenging, while the night unleashes more powerful zombies, leaving players three options: fight, run, or hide. Of course, first-person parkour is returning, but this game takes a page from the Dying Light expansion The Following, reintroducing vehicles to the franchise.

The game is set in the Castor Woods valley, which was inspired by the Swiss Alps and includes various biomes, such as a tourist town, an industrial area, a national park, some farm fields, and swamps. Dying Light: The Beast will be fully playable in four-player co-op with shared progression.

Pre-orders are open now at $59.99 and will provide users with the Harran Bundle, which includes the following in-game items:

  • Ultimate Survivor Outfit – Known as the Juggernaut outfit in Dying Light, this cool makeshift apocalyptic look was rewarded to the most dedicated survivors.
  • Harran Combat Knife – A swift and deadly weapon, the zombie head engraving on the blade is a throwback to the original Dying Light’s box art.
  • The Follower Crossbow – First found in Dying Light: The Following expansion, this crossbow is perfect for a stealthier approach.
  • In Jade’s Memory Pistol – Jade Aldemir – she’s one of the reasons you made it out of Harran alive. With her likeness on the grip, think of her with every bullet you fire from this pistol.
  • Castor Woods Patrol – Rescuing hikers from the woods and cats from trees was a breeze for this powerful beast. Now put it to the real test and see how it handles the zombie apocalypse.

Owners of Dying Light 2: Ultimate Edition will get Dying Light: The Beast and the Harran Bundle for free because, as mentioned before, that version was supposed to include a second Dying Light 2 DLC.
