Epomaker Carbon60 Keyboard Review – This Is Literally Made Out of Carbon Fiber

Well, Epomaker is one of the leading keyboard manufacturers, but is one of their more impressive offerings, and it is rather for an odd reason. The segment is reaching a point where there is little to innovate; however, with the Carbon60, Epomaker basically opened up competition in a new space, which is “carbon-fiber” made keyboards.

When you look at portability with keyboards, it is something that doesn’t co-exist together, given that in order to get your keyboard to move with you, consumers often need to compromise on elements like performance or aesthetics. But, with Epomaker’s Carbon60, it won’t be wrong to say that you are looking at an ideal portable option. With a small 60% design, you are looking at the bare minimum weight of a keyboard, and when I first carried the keyboard in my hands, I was amazed to see how easy the unit was to carry around.

For a quick rundown of Epomaker Carbon60 specifications, it comes with both Gateron Brown and Red low-profile switches, along with three-mode connectivity options like Type-C, Bluetooth or 2.4 GHz connection. Here’s a summary of the keyboard’s features/specifications:

Well, the packaging of the keyboard was nothing out of the ordinary, since it featured the keyboard’s branding in a blue-dominant color scheme. I wouldn’t call the packaging premium at all, since it had the simple cardboard as the outer material, but I would’ve loved if the manufacturer would offer something better, in order to provide a good first-time experience.

In the box, you get the standard manual, a Type-C USB cable, and a keycap puller, along with a 2.4 GHz USB to connect the keyboard wirelessly. The part which did disappoint me a bit is that there isn’t any sort of protective covering for the keyboard, and given that how susceptible the keyboard is to damage, the manufacturer could’ve focused on this. But apart from this, the packaging was moderate.

One of the main reasons why the Carbon60 keyboard is such a unique product is most likely due to its weight. The keyboard comes in at just 500g, which is one of the industry’s lightest ones. And given that your average “DELL” keyboard is around 1.5 kg, this is almost three times lesser. Epomaker managed to achieve this weight rating by integrating a carbon fiber case, which not only provides durability, but contributes tremendously towards its portability aspect.

Of course, the only downside is that with the 60% layout, you don’t get options like a dedicated numpad. Along with this, the keyboard is also equipped with RGB options, so this really checks all the boxes for an ideal compact product.

The Epomaker Carbon60 is a low-profile keyboard, which means it is a more ergonomically friendly one, not suited much for hardcore gaming workloads. It comes with DSA Low Profile keycaps, which provides that shorter-travel distance and a more quieter typing experience, accompanied with the Gateron low profile switches.

The Epomaker Carbon60 has managed the best to integrate features of what a full-sized keyboard comes with, and combining them with the benefits of a 60% layout. On top of that, with a wireless connectivity, it really does take portability to a whole new level, and this is what I love about the keyboard. The only downside here is the pricing, since the Carbon60 is retailing for $129.99, which is a high tag to pay for a 60% layout keyboard, but if portability is a priority, this keyboard gets the job done.
