5. TSMC discussing Intel jv, reports Reuters
TSMC is discussing a jv to take over Intel Foundry with Nvidia, Broadcom, Qualcomm and AMD, according to Reuters. Under the plan, TSMC would take a stake of not more than 50% in Intel Foundry in order to keep the company US-owned which is a requirement set by the White House. It is said that TSMC would like to have more than one partner in the jv.
4. ST and Sanan Opto inaugurate jv SiC fab in China
An inauguration ceremony has been held for the $3.2 billion SiC fab set up as a jv between Sanan Optoelectronics and STMicroelectronics in Chongqing. Sanan has a 51% stake in the jv and ST 49%. It is due to start volume production of 8” SiC ICs in Q4 using ST’s SiC process technology. When fully completed, in 2028, the fab will have a capacity of 40k wpm.

2. Embedded World: ‘World’s smallest MCU’, and it’s 32bit
Texas Instruments is claiming “the world’s smallest” for its latest MCU, which measures 1.6 x 0.86mm (1.38mm2) in its 8pad DSBGA package. Despite this, it has a 24MHz 32bit Arm Cortex-M0+ processor, three 12bit ADC channels (with DMA), four timers and one each: UART, I2C and SPI interfaces. There are actually two devices at this size, the MSPM0C1104S8YCJR with 16kbyte of flash and the MSPM0C1103S8YCJR with 8kbyte of flash.
