The M5 will not be the only Apple Silicon in the company’s current lineup, as there are three more powerful chipsets in the pipeline just waiting to power a multitude of products. Also, we won’t have to wait too long for their arrival, as the latest report indicates that the M5 Pro, M5 Max, and M5 Ultra will launch in the first half of 2026.
M5 Pro and M5 Max will fuel Apple’s 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models, while the M5 Ultra will be tailor-made for the Mac Studio; no word if a Mac Pro will witness a launch
A report from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman provides the launch timeline of the M5 Pro, M5 Max, and M5 Ultra. Earlier this year, we reported on references spotted in leaked macOS Tahoe code, revealing that the higher-end chipsets will not launch alongside the M5. We also talked about Apple developing its workstation-class M5 Ultra for a Mac Studio refresh, with the silicon arriving sometime in 2026.
We now learn about a bevy of new hardware that will grace us in the first half of next year, and it won’t just be the M5 Pro, M5 Max, and M5 Ultra arriving in 2026, though we look forward to seeing these chipsets in action.
“In the first half of the year, Apple plans to roll out new MacBook Pro models with M5 Pro and M5 Max processors, as well as an M5 MacBook Air.
The middle of the year will bring the M5 and M5 Pro Mac mini, in addition to M5 Max and M5 Ultra versions of the Mac Studio. Toward the end of the year, expect the debut of the M6 chip and the introduction of a new low-end 14-inch MacBook Pro.”
We have so far been impressed with the M5, because despite Apple sticking with the same 10-core CPU and 10-core GPU as the M4, this SoC performs almost the same as the M1 Ultra in Geekbench 6’s multi-core test, while delivering a massive framerate boost in Cyberpunk 2077 when compared to its direct predecessor.
One area in particular that we want to pay attention to for the M5 Pro and M5 Max is the potential new design with separate CPU and GPU blocks. With this change, users can configure their preferred number of CPU and GPU cores based on the workload they tackle on a daily basis.
Also, with the M5 Max, we are quite interested to see if it packs an UltraFusion connector required to combine two units to make the M5 Ultra. It is currently unconfirmed whether Apple will shift to a monolithic die for the first time. Sadly, we don’t have all the answers to these questions, but we will be sure to keep ourselves prepared for 2026.
