AMD will soon be launching a brand new Zen 5 CPU, the Ryzen 7 9700F, which packs 8 cores but with the iGPU disabled.
AMD Ryzen 7 9700F CPU Aims For $250-$300 US Segment, Launches Soon With 8 “Zen 5” Cores & No iGPU
Recently, there have been reports of an upcoming AMD CPU that is coming to the AM5 socket. Motherboard vendors have already released their new AGESA 1.2.0.3e BIOS firmware that adds support for this upcoming chip, and while some may have mistaken the chip as the Ryzen 9000G APUs for desktops, it is something entirely different and possibly not as exciting, though still some thing that mainstream users might be interested in.
Not 9000G, something else 👀

The AMD Ryzen 9000G Desktop APUs are still coming, but support for them has been baked within the AGESA firmware since the 1.2.0.3d patch. The AGESA 1.2.0.3e BIOS support is for a Zen 5 chip that will be called the Ryzen 7 9700F. Yes, the first “F” series SKU within the Ryzen 9000 stack, and something that will be aiming to be a competitive solution in the $300 segment.

Just like the AMD Ryzen 7 9700X, the Ryzen 7 9700F will be based on the Zen 5 core architecture. It will feature 8 cores, 16 threads, an L2 cache of 8 MB, and a L3 cache of 32 MB. The chip will feature a 65W TDP and will support overclocking, but it won’t feature an iGPU.
All AMD Ryzen 9000 “Zen 5” CPUs come with a 2 CU integrated graphics solution within the IO die. That isn’t the case with the “F” options. We can also expect lower clocks on the Ryzen 7 9700F, but not by a huge margin, and that will make it a competitive solution for mainstream builders.
9700F, I guess

If AMD can set the price close to $300 US or below, the AMD Ryzen 7 9700F will be a strong option for mainstream gamers on the AM5 platform. The Ryzen 7 9700X already retails at $304 US, while the Ryzen 5 9600X retails for $179, so $249 US would make the 9700F a great option. Expect more updates on this SKU soon.
