That’s the Global Mobile Awards, to give them their full name, and they’re in their thirtieth year.
Other winners at the mobile technology fest, included SK Telecom (South Korea) for “Best Mobile Operator Service for Connected Consumers”. Silvanet – “Best Mobile Innovation for Climate Action” – for its Ultra-Early Wildfire Detection system. And ZTE wins “Best Mobile Innovation for Cities” for its 5G-A smart blood delivery stations.
Digital everywhere
Note there are a lot of categories, for example: Mobile Tech, Digital Everything, Device and Tech4Good.
So the Pixel 9 Pro is the “Smartphone of the Year,” (following the Pixel 8 Series winning the award in 2024) and the Xiaomi 15 Ultra is “Best in Show”, to be precise.
And aside from smartphones, the Best Connected Consumer Device was won by TECNO. This was for its MEGA MINI Gaming G1 system. And the “Best AI Innovation” is Qualcomm’s, for the AI Engine in its Snapdragon 8 Elite Mobile Platform.
A second win for Google came in the AI form of Gemini. Its software won the “Breakthrough Device Innovation” award…
Gloss
China Mobile and Huawei won the GSMA GLOMO “Best Network Software Breakthrough”, which I’ll store for future reference.
And that’s glossing over Government Leadership Award (The Federative Republic of Brazil, just FYI) and Outstanding Achievement (Mats Granryd, Director General, of the GSMA, which runs the show)and Marketing Excellence (Orange for Ambient Mobile Technology at the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games)…
